The video Bugs for Breakfast was a very enlightening video to view. The video really broadened my view of foods related to different cultures. The main point of the film dealt with the idea  that the foods we eat and the foods that we judge to be disgusting are a product of our culture and environment. Different people around the world eat different foods because it is a  learned behavior. Foods that might be revolting to someone are a delicacy to others is dependent more on their culture rather than their stomach. Food and language are the first cultural  habits that children learn. In essence, disgust for certain foods is learned. The foods that we determine to be disgusting are usually foods we have not encountered as children. What we  eat as children become comfortable foods for the remainder of our lives. Comfort foods are foods that were culturally acceptable that we first encountered and consumed as children.  America is a society that was built from immigrants. This fact makes for interesting conversation on the topic of traditional foods. The truth is that most American foods came about from  foreign foods. These foods were made popular by immigrants. Once these foods were made popular they were mass produced and made available on grocery shelves. Although many  foods from around the world may still disgust me, I have a deeper understanding that the food disgusts me because of the culture I was raised in. Also, and maybe more importantly, I am  now cognizant to the fact that the foods that disgust me are delicious to others because of the cultures they were raised in.
