Today, I attended a group lunch. The lunch took place at Sam Woo Bar-BQ Restaurant. I was really excited to attend this lunch. By the way, thank you to our host for this lunch and sharing your experiences concerning your visit to China. The food items we tried were extensive. In true Chinese fashion, plates of food were delivered until the table was full. Lunch started with a soup called Westlake Minced Beef Soup. The soup was very good and had a distinct cilantro flavor. Then came all of the other dishes; these included roast duck, B.B.Q. sausage, B.B.Q. pork, steamed rice, scallops with black bean sauce, shrimp with curry sauce, beef with black bean sauce, beef with oyster sauce, bok choy, spicy tofu, and a few other dishes (there were just so many I can’t remember them all). All of the food was very good. I would be hard-pressed to pick one dish as a favorite. However, if I had to choose I would pick the shrimp with curry sauce. The shrimp were a respectable size and I absolutely loved the taste of the curry which seemed to be reminiscent of ginger. None of the dishes were very spicy, they were not schezwan style. Per our conversations about China, I learned that the décor of this restaurant was not Americanized. It was a plainly styled restaurant which was also possible to find in China. Also, during our conversations, I learned that this lunch was very comparable to the dishes actually found in China. All in all, this was an excellent experience and I cannot wait for my next group lunch.
