The traditional U.S. fast food industry has had a profound impact on the foods eaten and the food practices around the world. For example, bagels now represent two percent of all the foods that Canadians eat. This also is part of the demand for healthier food items. Countries around the world are impacted when they buy thing such as the American hamburger. In  essence, they are buying the American ideology of riches, free enterprise, and individuality. This represents a change in the social structure of other cultures; however, the concept of  creating and consuming fast food in not new to other cultures. The fist fast food of Jewish people was discovered when the Jews were fleeing their slavery in Egypt. As they were fleeing  they were carrying dough on their shoulders and the dough was baking in the hot sun before it had a chance to rise. This was the first instance of matzo – which must be cooked in less  than eighteen minutes. Farmers in Europe have also had their versions of fast food for a long time. Due to their working long hours out in the field they did not have time to eat. The  solution was the ploughman’s lunch. Even the sandwich has a long history. Rabbi Hillel placed bitter greens, raisins, and chopped apples between matzo. However, the credit of the  sandwich goes to the fist duke of sandwich, John Montague, where he ordered some meat and bread from his chef. Fast food has become such an important part of American culture. The lives of Americans are moving at such a fast pace, but we still need to eat. Fast food has become the solution that does not waste time. In addition, fast food is relatively cheap and it is  convenient. The fast food industry of the U.S. has also been influenced by other cultures. Now you can order Lebanese falafel, Japanese sushi, British fish and chips. The integration of  convenience foods at the supermarket has also become a solution in enticing Americans to try new foods. Americans are generally reluctant to try new foods, but if they can get and try it with in minutes it is more likely to be considered. This is increasing the American’s exposure to many different culture’s foods.
